Digital Detox Strategies
Digital Detox Strategies
In
today’s technologically driven environment and fast-paced world, it is somehow
impossible to keep ourselves away from our phones. We are more plugged in today
than ever before. Aren’t we?
The
use of smartphones and access to the internet have undoubtedly made it easy to
do multiple things at a time. (Reliance punchline “KAR LO DUNIYA MUTTHI
MEIN" is the fittest example of the same).
But,
getting plugged in with so many things comes at the cost of the distraction of
the mind and loss of focus. Technology has certainly benefitted us by making
life easier but the need of being digitally driven has made us addicted to
looking at the mobile screen every other second. Therefore, setting limits to
its access and taking digital detox initiatives is a must to avoid some serious
drawbacks.
Breaking up with your
phone is, of course, not possible, but relaxing the grip on it can help a lot.
Why Digital Detox is important
Here are some tips and tricks to keep yourself away from distractions while still maintaining a good relationship with technology.
- Keeping push Notifications off: A constant beep of Notifications that something is there to look into your device is the biggest distraction. By turning off notifications, one can easily avoid screen time. It is better to look for messages at a time when it is convenient.
- Enabling DND services to avoid spam calls: Enabling DND Services contributes a lot to digital detox efforts. One can easily avoid unnecessary calls or messages by enabling the DND service, and hence, refrain from spending time unnecessarily on the screen.
- Make a habit of reading newspapers and Book reading: These days, every piece of news is instantly available on mobile. Inculcating a habit of reading news articles in newspapers can help a lot in keeping away from the screen. Also, inculcating a habit of book reading helps reduce screen time.
- Set techno control on the device: There should always be techno control on your device. For that, delete the addictive games & Apps from
your phone. Instead, install App blockers that restrict access to sites
that are not useful.
- Use of alarm clock: Buying an alarm clock is better than allowing you to stay on the screen for some time after setting off the alarm. Also, it helps avoid sleep disturbances, which is most often the case while you sleep with your device. Role of sleep in maintaining a Healthy Life
- Fix a day to socialize: Social Media Platforms are the biggest addictions these days. Being digitally connected enhances screen addiction. One can post and watch every second activity of others. A Social Media detox can be done by fixing a day to make calls or socialize personally. It will not only save your maximum screen time, but meeting in person will help maintain better relations.
- Inculcate habits of Yoga and meditation: Set a time slot to engage yourself with physical activities like outdoor games, Yoga, and Meditation. Having less leisure time will help in staying away from the Internet, thus contributing to internet detoxification.
- Make your device less alluring: People have a tendency to set beautiful wallpapers or Vibrant backgrounds on their devices. But this practice is one big reason to draw attention to the screen. Setting a subtle background can contribute to digital detox efforts.
- Set No-Tech Hours: Make a rule of keeping away from phones in the bedroom or while having a meal. Family time should be a tech-free time. It not only contributes to mitigating digital overload but also helps foster healthy family relations.
So, It’s evident that by embracing the above digital detox strategies, it is possible to easily thrive in a technically driven age while also enjoying a balanced, more fulfilling and purposeful life.
